I was browsing around some different forums a couple years ago, and came across these cool looking things in people's signatures; I just had to know what they were. Tried to use 'View Image' but only got imageshack.us links.

BUT THEN, I finally got one that had a different address, userbars.com. Finally! I went and joined the forum. After searching for my favorite bars with limited success, I decided to start making my own. This was my first userbar:

Kind of hideous, but not too bad nonetheless. So I continued to refine my graphic skills. I started taking requests and doing pretty well. Even though I worked full-time and went to college full-time (and living 45 minutes away from both) I tried to make time to make these cool little graphics.

Then userbars.com when down for whatever reason. Well, I was hooked on making these bars so, I went to this other download forum and started fulfilling graphics requests. I saw this guy have some things in his sig I had never seen before (see here), so I pm'd him and asked him what they were called. He said that they didn't have a name and the he used them on his website.

Well, a couple of months have gone by, and I see this post about "Next Generation" userbars. Then, that sparked the memory of these little things. I decided to post one of those and the rest is history (hopefully in a good way). I asked for help naming them since I couldn't come up with anything creative, and userbox was the catchiest one that was suggested, so I went with that.
